Chinese Summer Camp

Main program:

Chinese classes: Monday to Friday, 3 classes a day for 50 min each, change – 10 min.

For beginners will be held thematic classes in Chinese using the latest techniques, audio and video materials. Upon completion of the course, students will be issued certificates of completion of the Chinese language course at That's Mandarin school. All teachers of the summer camp are full-time teachers of our school with exceptional experience in teaching Chinese to adults and children. Before starting a professional career in our school, teachers undergo mandatory training and a trial period, the results of which are allowed to teaching candidates who have received the maximum number of positive reviews from students or their parents.

Thematic classes

Practice and improve spoken language are the main tasks of this class. Each lesson the children will discuss a variety of topics, ranging from self-presentation and birthday, ending with a story about their favorite activities. Children will also listen to simple Chinese songs and dialogues to practice listening. This class focuses on the vocabulary of everyday life, improving speaking skills and pronunciation.

Reading and writing

Children will learn to write and recognize Chinese characters. With an emphasis on the most commonly used, students will be able to learn to read in no time. They will be able to learn the names of the shops, read menus and burn the main characters. Those who already know how to read and write will write essays based on what was learned in previous lessons, giving them the opportunity to use and improve their knowledge of grammar.

Watching cartoons

Students watch or read an age-appropriate cartoon or comic book and learn to retell what is happening in their own words, as well as share their opinions. This class is designed to be entertaining and fun, giving vacationers perfect conditions for improving speaking skills such as building grammar, expanding vocabulary, using the vocabulary they have learned. Everyday topics include shopping, directions, Hiking in the Park, sports, etc.

At That's Mandarin, we have observed how traditional teaching methods often remove students and lead to a lack of motivation and loss of interest in learning. We believe that learning should not be routine. All of our lessons are designed to be as educational as possible and at the same time have to be fun and engaging for learners of all ages.

Leisure programme:

• Calligraphy. The Chinese first began writing poems and phrases in calligraphy style thousands of years ago. In our workshops you will learn how to write your name or even a poem.
• Applications from groats. We offer a wide range of master classes in arts and crafts. In this form, children will make applications with Chinese motifs, using rice, beans and other cereals.
• Preparing cold dishes. In China, cold dishes are often eaten before the main meal to warm up your appetite and make you hungry even more. Learn how to cook a few simple dishes with our experienced teachers.
• Chinese chess. Chinese chess or Xiangqi is a strategy game for two players. You can often see groups of Chinese sitting on the street playing this kind of Asian chess.
• Sculpt dumplings. Dumplings of various sizes, shapes and flavors can be found all over China. We will teach you how to make one of the most common varieties in our cooking class.
• Mahjong. Mahjong is a game similar to the Western Rummy card game. The set includes 144 tiles with different symbols and characters. The game is popular all over China and East Asia.
• Painting masks. The Chinese Opera may not be for everyone, but there is no doubt that masks and costumes are wonderful creations. In our master class you will learn about the meaning of painting each mask.
• Painting fans. Summer in China is hot and humid, so what could be better than a hand-painted fan? Learn traditional ink painting techniques and create your own design.
• Tai Chi. Tai Chi has existed since almost the 12th century and is a great way to exercise as well as the basics of self-defense. It is especially popular among the elderly in China as a morning exercise.
• Ink pandas. When you think about animals in China, the first thing that comes to mind is pandas. Learn how to draw this cute and cuddly animal using traditional Chinese painting techniques.
• Paper cut. This traditional activity is often used to decorate doors and Windows and usually carries the meaning of luck or happiness.
