Recreation Camp by the sea Sports Thematic Excursion Out of town For children 10 - 17 years old

The OCEAN is a program aimed at promoting the latest knowledge of the nature of the sea and the coastal zone. The main goal is not to load the child's head with all sorts of concepts, definitions, and scientific names. On the contrary, we use extremely accessible, often figurative forms of information to form a holistic view of the sea, the coastal area and the main Mediterranean landscapes as living, dynamic systems in the minds of program participants. Kids will spend a lot of time on excursions. The main means of mastering new information is the word of the teacher and a natural object that can be seen, considered and, if it is not dangerous, even touch the hands in the natural habitat (in the forest, on the coast, and if desired, and under water), as well as laboratory studies, visual presentations, observation with a magnifying glass and a microscope, and constant comparative analysis. The background task that the program sets itself to instill in the child the basics of invariant thinking (any task in nature can be solved in at least several ways). In this case, the inculcation of such skills occurs through the environment.

Main program:

Software change « Link – OCEAN » – from the morning of arrival to the evening of departure – It takes 14 days. During this time, the child has time to visit the most diverse landscapes of Cyprus: from the sea coast (if desired, the seabed in rocky and sandy areas, in meadows of sea grasses, on reefs and in algae forests) and salt deserts along the banks of relict lakes – and up to eucalyptus groves, coniferous forests of Troodos mountains and - unique for the Mediterranean - maquis, Garigi and frigans. To visit and learn how such landscapes developed, why they exist and who lives in them. In addition to the stories of teachers on excursions, every day we hold small seminars to better assimilate the information acquired by the child on trips around the area.

During the training, children will learn the basics of environmental sciences, will gain knowledge and skills in:

ecology of marine communities,
the construction of coastal, mountain and lake ecosystems,
Microbiology – laboratory and field,
geomorphology (the science of how born, why there are and why the landscapes disappear),
Marine embryology,
cognitive snorkeling (swimming with a mask, snorkel and flippers to observe the underwater world)
and also (if desired), as an optional option - will take a course of training in diving in the system « PADI » (with the assignment of an international certificate).

In addition to popular science classes, the program provides for sports and entertainment and excursion activities:

Picnics with outdoor barbecue.

There is no quiet hour as such on our program. This means that after lunch everyone has the right to rest on an hourly basis. But such a rest is not a sacred duty of each participant of the program.

There are trips to Larnaka, museums and parks in the excursion program of the shift, as well as to the Nicosia University, which directly participates in our programs.
